    Default Eastern Yellow Robin

From a short trip interstate a month ago, the Eastern Yellow Robin common in the eastern states of Oz, sadly not so much here in the south. Cheeky little birds that will often come in to see what you are doing as was the case with this one....and his family. I dont generally go for set up shots, just not my thing, but this was a rock and fallen twig I placed on top of a post while passing time in between rain squalls. Not sure if I should crop more off the bottom or not...I'm in two minds about the height of the rock and leaf in front, but I wonder if the leaf in front balances out the image a bit ?

Canon 7d + 500 f4....f5, 1/250, ISO 500, no flash, manual exposure, spot metering, tripod mounted......slight crop, basic selective sharpen

I think the comp works great, Phil. What a sweet bird and cocky little pose. Great details and exposure.

Hi Phil, good look back pose captured in soft light. The colours of grey and yellow work well together, and if anything, I would just take a bit off the left.

If you ever do use this set up again, I would maybe remove the leaves in front.

Looks like this individual is wearing a turtle-neck top! I like your setup, and I like the amount of rock showing. The foliage you placed looks very good but I understand your concern about the vegetation in front...as Stuart mentions, you can just pluck I out next time (if there is a next time with this setup!). Sometimes these little details only get noticed after the fact... Still, you got a wonderful image of a delightful little fella!

    What a beautiful Shot Phil!

Lovely bird, sharp. Like the fine details. I would have gone for F8 but I think you probably didnt have enough light and I am assuming that this was a fidgety bird...:)

Like the perch as well. The leaf in from is a distraction for me but I can see why you think it may be a balancing thing. this crop works for me. I would be very happy if were mine...:)

Lovely shot Phil, I like the set up though perhaps lose the leaf on the left or place it behind the post. Exposure colour and detail looks spot on - not that I have actually seen one of these birds!

Sweet little guy and a nice pose with great detail. I like the set up but in this case would have liked more dof for the greens and more contrast on them. I'd keep up with the set up since they seem to come to it. Practice will make more interesting options with it as well.
