I'm not 100% sure on the species, but my guess is that this is a broad-tailed hummer since that is what we had most of the day. This is another shot from a shoot a couple of weeks ago with Doug.
After I got a couple of the standard hummingbird shots, I started trying to get some more dynamic poses. This proved challenging (the keeper rate went way down), but I think it was worth it.
The "wider" focal length allowed for less compression of the background, giving me a less uniform palette of colors.
Aerial ballet ! Like the body form in this one Miguel with the arched back and great eye contact with the viewer.....I do believe he was showing off . Very much like the blending of varied color tones in the backdrop and the light has picked up the dorsal feather colors nicely. Possibly another round of sharpening on the bird may lift this one a little more
I have been enjoying your hummer pics so much from your shoot with Doug, Miguel. They have all been first rate. This is no exception. The background is so sweet, that graceful pose is riveting, and I like the wings in blur here.
