aperture and shutter priority and program. will not work on my d90. only works in manual mode. but can'nt get f stop or shutter speed in viewfinder. is there software to make changes to my camera? thank you
Page 229 of the D90 manual shows the lens as being compatible in all modes. I didn't see any comment about the information in the viewfinder, but it might be worthwhile to look through the manual some more. Does the data show up on the top LCD screen?
Not sure if this may be the solution to your problem.
On lenses that still have an aperture ring (like my Sigma 300 2.8) that allows manual setting of the aperture on the lens itself, the aperture ring has to be set on the lens to the smallest possible f-stop (i.e. f22 or f32). On most lenses of his kind you will find a little locking switch to secure the aperture ring in that position.
This has to be done for all modes of the dSLR, not just like in the old days for working in aperture priority or program modes and this aperture setting on the lens was called something like "Auto-F" and allowed the camera to set the required aperture value!
If the aperture ring is in any other position no aperture reading is shown in the camera display, and on my bodies (D80 D300) f-- is displayed in viewfinder and LCD to alert me of the problem that the aperture ring has been moved to a larger aperture by accident -happens sometimes when putting the thing in and out of the bag.
The actual aperture for shooting is always dialed in on the camera body (unless you use shutter priority) using the wheel or whatever button combination is used on the particular camera model. Same procedure like on those newer lenses that don't have aperture rings anymore.
