A very nice graceful curve to the neck of the giraffe, and I like that the two gray tree trunks in the bkgd echo & accentuate the vertical lines of the composition. That tree closest to the giraffe even has curves that nearly match the giraffe neck. It is good that the giraffe is surrounded by solid greens that allows the designs of the fur to be easily seen and appreciated. Tiny point, I would clone out that small bit of bright green sticking out of the back of the giraffe. A well done "African" image!

Hi Loi - good choice with the portrait format and it's good that the neck is completely extended so that you can see the top of the head. Personally, I would prefer more of a side on view so that we can see the eyes and or tongue. I might burn the brightest grass at the bottom a tad so that it doesn't draw the eye.

    Hi Loi ,
good detail with nice colors and overall tonality, sharp were it counts.
I do find it is too tight on bottom and top.
But the main issue for me is the fact that i cannot see the face or parts of the face , sorry this is a big minus for me, so not really working as presented.

Hi Loi, I like the posture, but like the others wished for more of the face to be visible. What was your thinking going to f/11 and a slowish SS, curious?

Thank you very much for your comments. i have other images that show the face and eye, but like curving neck and reach of this one. agreed that the face was missing here. Steve, I was just checking to see how much DOF I can get with a 500 as I dint want a blur background here. Loi

    Dear Loi,

Just wanted to tell you that I always enjoy viewing your images. I particularly like the environment here, this photograph is not just about the giraffe but also about the lovely forest in the BG, the dense and lush vegetation that suits this species so well. Perhaps I am nitpicking but I would personally like a tad more space at the bottom. A very attractive image overall, sharp where it matters and I do not mind the face of the subject turned away.

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

I too like the image and don't mind the lack of space on top or bottom. I also like that you show some space of the left for the viewer to see what the surrounding habitat was. It would be nice to see the face but not an "image breaker" for me.
    Nice job.
