    Default A BPN Meeting

    Hi,

I have admired Paul Lagasi's images since I joined BPN, and so I was pleased when he e-mailed me that he was coming to my part of the world and would like to do some birding and photography - so the 2 of us spent a beautiful sunny (although harsh lit) Sunday looking at mainly shorebirds in the Halifax and Grand Pre areas here in Nova Scotia. Here are the 2 of us on a dirt road at Grand Pre, taken by another local birder who came with us - Bernard Forsythe (who is this year's Canadian Wildlife Federation's Outdoors-person of the year). When Paul gets home, perhaps we can post some images we took together with our own gear.

It's always fun to put a face with a name. Even better in person.
BPN has allowed me to meet photographers from around the world, many I'll call friends the rest of my life.

Glad ya'll where able to get together.

Great to see these fine gentlemen. Paul and his delightful wife Sue stayed with us before their sojourn to Nova Scotia.

I can only assume from Paul's glum face that he did not add to his "big year" or to his Golden Guide photo record!

    And Richard- where's your Oly???

LOLOLOL @ glum face, I did manage 2 great birds for the big year, John. Richard and Bernard helped me pick up a Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow and White-rumped Sandpiper. It was fun day, Richard took me to many fine places and was a great guide, although the tides were against us for most of the day. Still searching for that Manx Shearwater.

And I was smiling... Hi Cheryl

    Hi John,

When that photo was taken my Oly was on the back seat of the car up the road! Basically now when I'm spefically out to photograph birds I tend to take the D7000, 300 f/4 and 1.4TC, and when I'm out to photograph anything else I take the Oly OM-D, but have the 100-300 lens with me just in case. The Oly combo is great for birds that don't require fast-moving auto-focus against a plain bg, or for birds that don't require a big crop. I'll be posting some recent warblers with it soon. I'm going on a combined birding and cultural trip to Peru in Nov., and despite the carry-on restrictions on small planes I'm going to try and take both.
