    Default Least Sandpiper (Juvenile)

Had lots of fun this weekend photographing little peeps (and yellowlegs). Man, compared to the adults which are worn at this time of year the juveniles look fresh and colourful. I'll post and adult tomorrow evening to show the comparison between the two. Oh, and yes I got very wet and muddy (in no particular order) for this session...

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1600s., f/8, ISO 800, small rotation and cropped resulting protruding corners - otherwise FF, natural light, handheld, a couple of distraction highlights patched out from the water, burned the whitest whites under the wing, darkened pupil.

Wow! I like the wind blown feathers. Fine job.

Was well worth getting muddy! Good HA, DOF, and I think the raised foot adds a lot.
    Really nice shot Dan.

    Daniel:

Intimate shooting angle, nice bg with enough tonal variation to be interesting, raised foot and ruffled feathers add.

    Well done!

Maybe you should start using a skimmer to keep your rig up out of the mud?

    Cheers

Your really got low on this one. I really like the way the water is illuminated directly under the bird.

Sweet image, Daniel. The detail in the feathers is very nice and the shooting angle makes this image outstanding! Solid processing/pp work and as others have mentioned the wind blown feathers add an extra touch to the story. Well worth your getting wet and muddy I would say...

Brilliant image. The colors, low angle, subject pose with a nice leg lift, and perfect body and head angle all work together to make this a great image. I enjoy these richly colored juvenile leasts...

Spectacular low POV, great pose with raised foot and just the right head turn. Beautiful light. The wing seems just a bit soft to me -- motion blur or DOF? Maybe the latter if you were that close to him.

Hi Dan, excellent low shooting angle, you couldnt get any lower without drowning. You have captured a good pose with the raised foot, and just love the yellows and browns of the sandpiper against the blues of the water.

Beautiful low angle image, Daniel. Love the pose with the raised leg and the blue water.
I'll miss them this year as the water level is high locally and at Burlington Bay as well.
Some other areas I know were "altered" so they won't go there anymore.

I like everything about this shot Daniel. The light is awesome and the overall colors are great. Nice pose and the feather detail really makes this one, especially against that blue BG. Like it allot!
