Here is a vertical crop of the same bird.
I moved my tripod to get this smooth water/green vegetation combination as a background.
I removed some spent Thistle heads from the right bottom.
There were some hot spots in the yellow that I fixed in LR.
    Thanks for looking.

Hi Karl, excellent pose with a great HA, and those yellows are really striking. Well exposed on the the darker wing, and I like the high placement of the goldfinch on the thistle. Sweet BG too.

    Thanks Satish, Thanks Stuart.
I just realized that I posted the wrong image.
It is not bad at all just not the one it has the water/green background.
    Next time.

If you had enough DOF to get the stem sharp, this is award winning stuff.
Excellent as is, the Goldfinch is just perfect.

This is a beauty Karl. Bird is tack sharp and I personally like that the stem is a bit OOF as it keeps my eye on the subject.

    Karl:

Works very well as a vertical, sharp, nice comp. I think I can see where the yellows were touched up, but only because you let us know about the repair, so I was looking carefully.

Cheers. Will look forward to the next version!

    Cheers

This one has it all, Karl. Great angle on the bird, excellent detail, smooth background, and a perch with great character. I love how his foot is grasping the thistle so tightly! Good shooting.

Looks good Karl, correct image or not! Vertical comp works well, and I like the subject's posture.

P.S. No need to go below ISO 400 for bird photography...

First class, super exposure and detail in both dark and light plumage, excellent light great perch and a nice head turn. It doesn't get any better than this.
