    Default Saddle-billed Stork with 200-400mm

I have just returned from a 4 day trip to the Kruger National Park. I decided to hire the new 200-400 lens and try it out. This male Saddle-billed stork ( the females have yellow eyes ) was standing down in a small ravine next to the road. I cant understand why he has pooped on himself, but decided to leave his leg as is. Cropped to vertical.

Whilst using this lens, I was mostly sat in my car, as one is not allowed to get out of your car at all. It was placed on my lap while driving around, and whenever I came to a taking a shot, I could pick it up and fire away. It is not too heavy, but still hand holdable, even shooting out the window of the car. The only thing I found a bit difficult to get around, was to zoom in and out, as you are restricted to your car seat, trying to keep your eye on the subject and then zooming to suit the frame - remembering that the subject is moving all the time, and you are trying to get the best shot. I would really like to give it another go at one of my local locations where I am standing, and have more freedom to swing around all over the place.

Beautiful light, I like the composition and the exposure looks spot on. The detail in both blacks and whites is super.

Sounds like you had a good time testing out the new lens. Beautiful subject, looks like she is smiling for you. Good details on the back and I like the vertical composition. The legs are the only issue for me...I wish one was not as heavily in shadow, and the other cleaner (although for this one it does have a natural history attachment to it).

What a handsome looking Stork. Love the pose and the colors in this one. Great details and exposure control. Too bad he pooped on his leg. Nice job as always.

Love the bill coloration on this species. The expression that you captured is excellent! Exposure was perfectly controlled.
