Thought I would post something a little different just for fun. Can you tell what species it is?

Alan:
I like it, as it def, makes you stop and try and figure it out. Because of the diving, my first thought was a loon, but I have never seen one raise the two mounds on the sides like this and the tail feathers are to long. Too distinct of tail feathers for a grebe I think. My best guess would be a cormorant.
Will be curious to hear the story.
Cheers

Great avian abstract here. The water elements are great...as is the low angle work.
I'd say ruddy duck, goldeneye, or hooded merganser....it's definitely one of those three :)
I love stuff like this. Awesome how we can capture a moment with our cameras.
Great freeze frame of what Im going to guess is a "Blue bill" AKA Drake Ruddy Duck. It was my first guess when I saw it, but thought the tail might be a bit long, so we will see. I think Shawn's on the right track if its not a Ruddy. TFS
Different indeed....amazing timing on this one....no point me guessing what it is...all our birds behave normally hehehehe
Different for sure! My first thought was a Hooded Merganser but Ruddy Duck makes sense too...will look forward to the answer...
Definitely a Ruddy. Well seen Alan (If you did not plan it then "lucky shot"...lol)
Its amazing the way the rest of the water is so calm
As many of you guessed, this is a male Ruddy diving. The erupted water is from the force of their feet as they go under.

Alan, it is different for sure. Beautiful capture and presentation, but I must say I'm miles behind all of you in terms of seeing a Ruddy Duck here :). Loi
