    Default Northern Flying Squirrel Pup.

Well, I managed to get back up to my folks' cottage to inspect the Northern Flying Squirrel litter that is inside one of their BBQs. They have grown up very nicely, all four of them, and here you can see one at about 6-7 weeks of age waving hello and whispering "yoo-hoo". Two days after this image was taken they had flown the coup, finally weaned, and out to venture the nastiness of the real world outside the confines of "The Grill". The kids had an absolute blast observing them and learning about them...a highlight of their summer (and mine)!!

Canon 7D + 100mm f/2.8 macro, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/200s., f/10, ISO 800, full-frame, fill-flash @ -2 FEC, handheld, a stray grass cloned out at bottom, some eye work as there were lots of highlights and reflections in it.

Thanks for the update on your furry critter friends Daniel. Cute little guys. How long to they spend in the nest maturing before they make a dash for freedom?

They are indeed so adorable. Love the two tiny feet and the open mouth. Tack sharp, and good use of flash. Wish that I could see a little more of his liter mate. Loi

Hi Daniel, love the slight curvature of the body, really adds to the cute pose. The look to camera with the slight outstretch paws works. The Fill in looks good, just wonder if it could have bumped it up a fraction without any harm to the subject? Those whiskers look massive in relation to the body, hope they don't grow in proportion. The straw BKG also adds to the overall scene. Good tech, lovely detail.

Daniel, great shot but a couple things.
First, that looks like a rear foot on the right and I can't figure out where the other litter mate is. Maybe I'm wrong but just curious. Doesn't really detract from the photo.
Second, I wish I could get the quality of image out of a 7D at ISO 800 that you do. I know of one other person that is able too, hold on to that body because I'm afraid you would be disappointed with a replacement.
And most importantly, what a great way to share your passion with your kids, nice image and story all around but then I always enjoy your images.

    Thanks guys!!

Stan, those are the sweet little fella's two hands On this particular image we can see parts of three different individuals: the main subject, of course, and then below it two more (we can see the ear of one, and the other is out of dof range in lower right corner). There is a fourth one out of the frame too!

Daniel, this is heart melting photography! Too cute for words, that little open mouth, and so soft...The little nails...Irresistible and so delightful Mother Nature has its ways...And I thought I had no motherly instincts...Well I admit to have fallen head-over-heels in love with those little subjects of yours...may I humbly ask...have you more images of these little guys?

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
