    Spent a week off work doing some bird photography and managed to catch up with this wonderful Meadow Pipit late one evening. I'm really pleased with this and I think this is destined for a print and hanging in my study.

    Lovely light, bg, perch, pose. I can see why you're pleased with it. Just one nit, and maybe it's my blurry eyesight, but I'm feeling the need for just a little more sharpness, although the eye looks good. Perhaps its the DOF. I wonder what others think.

    Thanks Bill. I didn't at much sharpening as I thought it was pretty sharp and didn't want to over do it. I applied USM 80,0.2.

    That's one sweet composition on the seed head, all sitting in the frame perfectly imo. Light is rather nice and such a lovely smooth and complimentary colored backdrop. Like his eye contact/head turn and as far as the sharpness goes I think it could stand a little more but also a bit more dof would of been nicer. To me it looks just a tad more 2 dimensional, looks almost planted on the screen with edges a little too crisp. Was flash used ?....sometimes I find use of flash tends to make things look a little to much 2D, but it may not be the case on this one { sometimes using a little blur tool around the edges can alleviate the 2D look somewhat }

    This looks very good Simon! Good composition, great perch, lovely BG. I do wish we could the tail at least a little bit, but the overall pose is very cute as is. If I could make one suggestion it would be to eliminate the OOF part of the vegetation that is detached from the rest at bottom (if that is OK with your processing ethics).

    It will look very good hung in your study

    Thanks all for the very kind and positive feedback. Daniel thanks for your suggestion on the cloning. I'm happy to do that and certainly would improve the overall image.

    thanks again.

    Yummy light quality. The head of the bird is perfectly square to the sensor and is razor sharp with lots of detail. Personally, I think stopping down to like f10 to get the feet and perch as razor sharp as the head, would have been a good consideration here. Background control is excellent.

    Thanks for all the comments. Is like to print this one so do you have any advice on the level of sharpening I need to apply for printing.
