    Default 1DX: can't change ISO ???

    Hi,

maybe I am just too stupid but I cannot change the ISO via the main dial on my new 1DX anymore. Yesterday it worked fine. I haven't change any settings.

All custom functions are reset, AV or M mode is used. RAW pictures.

I can change it via the Q menu without problems but when I press the "ISO" button, I get the exposure compensation scale on the LCD display. It looks like the ISO and the +/- button do the same thing. Weird.

Couldn't find anything in the manual about this.

    Anybody had the same problem?

Press the Q button and go to the Custom Controls menu (the icon in the bottom right corner. Set the Quick Dial Control (it's second to last on the list) to Av and see if that fixes your problem.

    Hi Doug,

thanks for your reply. This is going in the right direction but I haven't yet fixed my problem.
When I choose AV I still have the problem. Just for fun I've use all the 6 settings available. With the left 5 both the ISO and +/- button have the same behavior and either change the exposure compensation or the AF field. The the one on the far right both buttons changes the ISO settings. So at least the ISO buttons seems to work.

But in all settings both buttons always have the same function. What I want is the ISO button to change the ISO and the +/- button the exposure.
    How can I achieve this?

Also can you post a picture of how your custom controls are set (from the rear LCD on your camera).

Another weird thing: When I press the "Menu" button, I see a screen that shows same basic settings, how many files I can shoot, etc. The next time I press "Menu" I see the level, then the screen from the "Q" button and then the menu. That is I have to press "Menu" 4 times to get to the menu settings. Weird.

I cleared all custom settings and also used "clear all camera settings". No effect.

Try reinstalling the firmware by downloading it from Canon. I can't understand what's going on. It sounds from your last post like you're cycling the Info button, not the Menu button.

    Hi Doug,

reinstalled the firmware. Had not effect. Menu and Info still do exactly the same and the ISO button problem also still exists. Weird.

I'd exchange it for a different body. That should not happen.

    Hi Doug,

thanks for all your help. I will probably do that. I've also contacted Canon about this problem. Let's see what they will answer.

Arash, thanks for the offer but I saw your post only after I got back from my camera dealer. They haven't seen that "feature" either.
Camera goes to Canon. They can either explain to me what I did wrong, fix it or exchange the body. I doubt now that it is only my error. Couldn't find anything with google, either.

    Thanks for all your help.

Update: Just learned that the camera is indeed broken and some hardware module (don't know which one) needs to be changed. A joke when you consider the price.
Of course there is always the possibility that something breaks but for such an expensive camera, it shouldn't happen, particularly not after 5 days using it.

    You're right it shouldn't, but that's what warranty's for.
Glad to hear a solution is on the way for you. First time I've heard of that happening with the 1DX. I've heard (and seen in person) a few similar complaints, but they all turned out to be issues with Custom Controls setup. (carbon-based rather than silicon-based errors )

Today I went back to my camera store and they gave me a brand new body. Let's hope that this one is without issues :-)
