    Default Black-headed Gull

    Black-headed Gull, Munich

    EOS 1DX, EF 4/600L IS II, hand-held, ISO 640, 1/2000, f5.6, manual exposure

Yesterday morning I was out giving my new 1DX + 4/600 II a test drive with birds in flight. Lot's of non-keepers due to cut wings, etc but almost all images where sharp. I am completely new to the 1DX AF but even then results are amazing.

Haven't yet read Arash's and Artie's AF guides or Canon's own AF guide for the 1DX (will read them all over the next days).
I just set the camera to AI Servo and used the central focusing point with the 4 around it.

This is a crop of about 1700x2200 pixels (next time I will try more shots with the 1.4x. even with a 600mm the birds are rarely close enough).

Did some sharpening in PS and added little clarity and vibrance in LR.

Any comments on how to improve it welcome.

    Markus

P.S. Can I post a larger version? I could only use a file with 800px on the vertical side.

    Markus:

Fun to have a new toy to play with.

Your gull is sharp, well exposed, good pose.

I might consider moving him a bit right in the frame.

I should be able to post at 900 vertical. My latest loon posting was 900 vert.

Look forward to more from your new tools!

    Cheers

Looks very good Markus. The only thing I would do is place the gull a little bit more to the right as suggested by Randy. Techs look good, sharpness excellent as posted. Congrats on the new gear!!

Very nice is right. Like the pose with the under wing detail and the gull looks sharp with a nice catch light. Looks like the Bonapart's gulls that we have out here. Nice work

sharp and well exposed with a good wing position. you should be able to post 900 pix tall.

looks like the new gear is working well out of the box.

Except that the camera is already back at Canon as you have seen in the thread in the gear forum. :-)

    But AF always worked.
