This is the time when you can capture them on the a Bull thistle which is their favorite plant.
    The light was somewhat harsh.
I might consider going back on an overcast day.
    Thanks for looking.

Seems this particular Thistle species is a good food source for many birds, including out European Goldfinches over her as well. Nice eye contact and great with seed in beak, lovely smooth backdrop. I think maybe the yellow is a bit hot on the back and myself I'd be inclined to crop a bit tighter to just above the purple Thistle head and a bit off the left and right

    Karl:

Yes to the harsh light. I like the pose with the thistle in the beak.

From a comp standpoint, I might consider removing the plant lower left and crop in a sliver from the left, but my first inclination would be to leave the purple below. Would however, certainly give Phil's suggestion a look to see what works best for you!

If you can go back when the light is a bit softer, I think it would be worth it!

    Cheers

Beautiful perch. I like the seed on the birds's bill. I would prefer a tighter crop with a little cropping on the left and right and I might also remove a bit at the bottom incl.the purple part.

Thanks, Satish. Very nice composition, great PP work.I also like verticals, generally speaking.
Next time I'll post one vertical of the same bird.
    Thanks.

Wonderful bird Karl, i love the colours, finches are one of the most colourful and the golden always is one which my eye rests on , never seen one in my life as we dont get it here.

I see the harsh light and i tried to tone it down a bit in post here is the result, not much changed

I wish you all the best to get it on a overcast day it will enhance the golden a lot.

I'm OK with the purple flower, even if OOF in the FG. I do wish the other OOF parts were not there and pointing your lens an inch or two more to the right would have been super. Harsh light, yes, but dealt with well enough...but I think reducing the exposure a bit would be even better.

Thistle is the goldfinches' favorite nest-lining material...the reason they nest so late in the season (as in now) compared to other birds...

I always seem to find these guys in bright sun. Softer light would have been better, but I like the piece of thistle in his mouth. Very creative approach by Satish - I like that comp.

Lovely bird and image Karl - reposts are an improvement with the yellows as well.
