Nice action capture Andre. Think I like pretty much everything, nice and sharp and a great background. That's a yellow mongoose, correct?

Ha Ha! This is a great shot, good detail. Is this cropped much? I would love to see a wider view with the ground or some other reference. Great photo!

    Hi Andre,
great stuff in capturing this jumping mongoose, great timing i think, quite difficult to get this, so a big lifting my hat for this .

Think you handled exposure well on this one looks light bright Kalahari sun.

Overall the subject looks a tad too bright and flat in tones, no form in the body , as our mastermind would say , i guess. I do feel there should be more `shadows`under the belly .

Comp is ok but i think , if you have i would go for more room on RHS leaving this space on bottom because it gives a god view how high this guy jumped.

Again a real stunner for me.

    TFS Andreas

For illustrating my thoughts took the liberty to make an RP, not perfect but i hope you see what i was thinking.

Hi Andre, I know you will be somewhere out in the bush enjoying yourselves, so for those who have posted there may be a delay.

This is a great capture with a killer BKG to boot, and not the most easiest of images to pull off, so very well done Andre. For me, the image is crying out to go landscape, purely because of the posture/pose and space for the little fellow to jump into. I'm not sure what you did, or why, but agree with Andreas, there should be shadow in the belly area & perhaps in the tail, the light looks to even and with no shadow? in addition, I would also expect more detail in the underside of the tail facing the paws, if they are sharp then I would expect that area to to be? Techs look good, with SS to freeze the image, nice one.

Super cool capture of this mongoose totally in the air! Was he fighting with another mongoose? Smooth bkgd colors are a perfect compliment.

    Top action here, Andre!
I agree with Steve, it screamed landscape format to me when I first viewed it. Some great critiques added already (nice repost, Andreas).
I love spending time with these and various other 'little guys' who hang around the Kalahari rest camps. I think you are currently there too? I hope to see some cracking images on your return..

Indeed a stunning image, Andreas RP has corrected some minor issues but for me the big thing is orientation, this image just needs to go Landscape, maybe work playing with if you have a little time and space.

Thank you all for viewing and comments! Stan, you right it is a Yellow Mongoose, image taken in the Kalahari at one of the picnic sites; on the South African side; mid morning tea break.

Jack this was FF, cropped a bit from the bottom, as I was trying to get him in the frame jumping up. That was the reasoning for the crop I had. The image was shot was D300s (DX) with 300 F2.8 hand held. Selected F4 not to get any BG in focus and for fast SS. Subject was about 3-4m away.My shutter release does not activate AF, so focus was done on a previous jump. I hoped I have the techs are in place, when he jumps, you hit the release at CH. Originally I just cropped him lot tighter from underneath, we decided he needs space from where he was coming from- he was on the apex of his jump and was going down- the logic for the crop.

Andreas, thanks for your valuable advice, did levels layer mask on tail to increase shadows.

Master Steve- reworked the PSD file, adding canvas, then did some cloning before cropping to landscape. Did curves on the unlucky Mongoose- my curves make everything look flat! Tried to get more sharpness on base of tail

Nancy, he was trying to reach the chicken sausages on the picnic table?!

Morkel, did the landscape with canvas added on RHS, WDYT? We are only GOING to the Promised Land in 3 weeks, cant wait!

Thanks Jack, Loi, Vishal, Markus, Ben and Brendon for comments!
    Regards

    Andre.
