    I'm ready to play

    Hi Everyone
Recently, friends of mine, Andre and Gabriela who actively participate on BPN suggested that I have a look at the website to see what it has to offer. After spending some time perusing through the material in the different forums I can see why they are progressing so well and excited about BPN.

In fact it was a reality check. I revisited some of my favorite images and could clearly see fault with some aspects of them that I had not noticed before. I am really looking forward to participating and learning from you all to improve in my photography.

Having upgraded from film to digital, I have only recently acquired professional Canon gear more suited to achieve my future aspirations. With the current gear I have already created images that has boosted my confidence immensely.

One aspect that I am having problems with is suitable processing software and knowledge thereof. I have an IMac with LR5 installed as well as PSE. On another Windows Laptop I have PS CS3. So you can imagine what I have to do in order to work around PP work, as my IMac’s screen is more suitable. So it has forced me to keep it simple and work with the IMac setup only. I’m hoping to change this soon but CS6 in SA is really expensive and the whole new concept of Adobe CC is a bit in the air for me.

I have a passionate love affair with the natural environment and particularly the African bush where I grew up in. Strictly an introvert in a sense I have no idea sometimes, how I managed to make a 26-year long career as a professional wildlife guide. Passion for the natural environment helped me through that I guess.

Briefly, I think my strong points are in ornithology and ethology and my incredible experiences with Leopard and the field research related to these amazing cats. This knowledge has helped heaps in my photography efforts so far, however you never stop learning.

Currently I am a Wildlife manager on a “Big5” game reserve that resides within a biosphere wilderness area stretching from the coast and inland. So there is huge diversity in the region. I also have the benefit of carrying my photographic equipment with me each workday and if an opportunity presents itself I am ready.
    Look forward to participating here.

Welcome Carl! I am looking forward to seeing your work from the iSimangaliso UNESCO area (I presume that is where you are working). Love that part of South Africa.

Hi Carl and welcome to our community. I went thru the same realization of how my work could improve after joining BPN and I can honestly say that I have learned so much here. You know speaking of software, I used Canon Photo Studio for forever then progressed to Elements 7 and used that for forever. We know what post processing can do but I am a firm believer in getting as accurate in camera as possible for the best images. It's all a personal preference of course and that's not to say I don't do a lot of post processing or believe in it. I just think it makes me better at my craft to imagine life without it sometimes when I shoot. I like your first post. It tells a story to me of a little cat fight or play about to happen.
