someone has to stick their tongue out at the photographer ! I photographed this Bighorn Sheep ewe at the top of Mt. Evans, Colorado (same place as the Mt. Goats). She was in deep shade from the rocks. Not sure about the whitish lines in the eye. I subdued some bright areas in the bkgd.

    Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS, 1/250, f6.3, ISO 800.

    C & C most appreciated.

Good job on getting in close and isolating the head to help put more emphasis on the eye and tongue rather than the shedding coat. The ewes aren't always on the photogenic list during the shedding time of year. Highlights on the fur and tongue add a nice touch and whites are well controlled. Maybe a touch too cold on the WB but I gather this is pretty close to the actual scene.

Thanks, Jamie. You are so right about the ewes not being photogenic at this point!

Nice and sharp. I love the reflection in the eye. The ewe saw you I think. I wonder why the choice of f6.3 for a head shot. I'd be tempted to go for less DOF to throw the BG out of focus more. Loi

Hi Nancy, I think this is your best post to date here in Wildlife, excellent work.

You have captured some wonderful detail and there is a nice depth to the subject, as you can clearly see the folds, contours and form of this subject giving an almost 3D quality. The moulting fur just adds to the interest of the image. The blueness of the image does convey a coldness, almost early morning overall which is nice. I did look to removing the blue etc within the subject just to see if it helped to separate the subject from the BKG, but lets see what others say. I also just pushed the eye a bit more for richness. Techs look good, likewise the sharpening and overall PP. Not sure if the whole crop could move left, but not much.
Nice one nancy, congrats on nailing this one.

Indeed Nancy, money shot! Amazing detail and the pose a great bonus. I agree with Steve above and I like his suggestion regarding crop (just a tad).

And did I mention the eye? Lovely detail there and reflection-when I opened this image I was instantly drawn to the eye-great work Nancy, congratulations!

    Warmest regards,

Have to agree with the eye, I can see your reflection I believe, great job. And it's nice to see shots of animals when they are not perfect, as they rarely are.

    Hi Nancy,
agree with Steve, by far a big jump in PP.The best post so far.
Excellent detail , sharpness and tonality.Love this really glossy eye.
Good portrait with a nice comp.

Only suggestion i have is in reducing the blues and cyan creeeping through in the animal it self, but leaving the colors alone in the rest of the image.

Thank you all so very much! I'll look at the points mentioned, the cropping & blue tones.
