    Default Downy Woodpecker

    Attached Images Attached Images

This downy woodpecker was photographed fall 2012. The perch is set up using bungy straps, attaching this dead tree trunk to another dead stump, with suet cages bungeed below where the woodpecker is. Canon7d, Sigma50/500os, iso800, f9, 1/320, small crop, selective NR to the bg, selective USM to the perch. Comments and critiques welcome.
    Regards,
    Shawn Zierman.

Not an often photographed species despite its' very common numbers (or at least not very often posted). Technically perfect and with a well balanced composition. Except for a male with the red patch you could not ask for any better.

Nicely captured Downy in a classic wp pose. I like the perch, nice detail and bg. Maybe just a tad tight in the frame for me on this one.

Hi Shawn, I like the tilted perch, and you have exposed the woodpecker nicely. I feel your comp works very well, and what a sweet BG.

Nice looking shot. I like the pose and the nice HA on this beautiful WP. The perch and comp are perfect IMO and I like the smooth colored BG. I have some very similar shots that I got in NY last year. Well done.
