    Default Broad-tailed Hummer

Had one heck of a time yesterday with Doug Brown shooting some hummers. In one morning I added 4 new species to my life list, and got some great photographs of each. I've got to give most of the credit to Doug, as he did all of the set-up a before I arrived. It was definitely one of the highlights of my birding "career"!

I'll throw in a self-critique and say that I wish his left wing were open to us, but I'll take this no problem

    Shooting Info:
    Nikon D800 | 500 f/4 VR handheld
    1/200" | f/14 | ISO 200

About 70% of full frame (I know right?!). Lots of clone stamp tool to remove dust spots (really wish I would have cleaned the sensor beforehand).

Amazing shot, Miguel. The fanned tail, wing position and HA are all great. Also nice to have new species on your life list.
I just recalled that in the Cloud Forest of Ecuador with the help of the local guide, I had more than twenty new species of Hummingbirds in an hour.
I don't even remember most of them anymore.

Hi Miguel, a pretty neat shot, and nicely done. Excellent detail all round, and love the fanned tail. The HB really pops against the BG.

You couldnt have asked for a better set up master on HB's than Doug.

This is a cracker - can only imagine the fine detail you got by shooting this with the D800...
Love those colours. Pose is just fine with me!

Beautifully done. A flower in the image would give some context.

Awwww.....a little hummingbird hug. Very cute image. I'd burn the bill just to give it a sharper appearance.

Gorgeous. Love the colors in the image and the flight pose achieved. The plumage details rock. Is the background set up? Was flash used?

Thanks Alan. I've got a couple with a set of flowers, but I just didn't get the pose I wanted.

Love the fine details on that tail!! I'd go with a more open front wing too, but this is quite a fine image as is.
