What starts? Fall shorebird migration of course! My favorite bird photography time of the year. Although it is the right time of year I do not usually find cooperative subjects until around mid-August (perhaps a few days earlier) so I was not 100% prepared clothing-wise for this. I was not in Sunday dress mind you, but some change of clothes for the drive back home is normally needed when having belly crawled all morning on wet sand! To make matters worse (or better) it started to rain so I was wet front AND back....oh the annual shorebird good times have now just begun....

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4 TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, a green blob that just did not belong cloned out at bottom right, the brightest whites on the subject toned down via burn tool, about 85% FF.

Nice Dan. I think the bit of green adds a lot to this image. I also wish for more DOF....

Beautiful! The sparkle of sand captured by the shallow DOF adds a lovely touch to give the bird a path to follow.

Getting down and dirty and wet has paid off nicely to achieve this great low perspective. Well timed to capture the raised foot, and love the soft pastel colours in the BG.

I like the sand on the bill, the light, raised foot, perfect eye contact, and creamy BG. A beauty.

The body angle...slightly coming towards you, coupled with the ultra low perspecitve, really rocks here. Although it's not bad, the oof orange/tan circle to the right of the bird in the bg looks a little strange to me...wondering if you remember what it was?

    Thanks guys!

Steve, I have a couple of images with that colour there and I do not know what it is...at first I thought it might be a buoy delimiting the swimming zone by the beach but those are red. Perhaps a a distant jogger wearing orange!

Good looking shot of this Sandpiper. Nice feather detail and I like the pose. Dont mind the DOF at all and the smooth BG sets it off nicely. Well done Daniel.
