    Default Boneyards in the Fog

In Gambell, Alaska when looking for migrants, birders are always trudging through the Boneyards (Near, Far, and Circle). Most of the good birds can be found in these areas. They are bone burial grounds that have been used for centuries and contain thousands of skeletal remains of Walrus and Seals. The locals dig through these areas looking for ivory teeth and tusks, which can be used for carvings and also can be sold to make money. For 9 days twice a day, we walked through these boneyards looking for rarities. The exposed earth and cover make these spots good hiding places. Every day I passed walrus skulls that screamed, take my photo. This particular day, there was a low fog and out came my Panasonic Lumix FZ200 (24-600mm f2.8) camera and this image below is the result. I applied a Topaz Fog Effect and Painting Effect. Thanks for looking.

Paul, that must have been an amazing experience. I like the foggy look - it adds to the mood.

The skull in the fog has a hidden story it seems. Intriguing image - well seen and composed. Very cool processing.

Congrats on visiting the St Lawrence Island Yupik as well. I assume for birding?

    Thanks Everyone.
John going to Gambell was an experience all right. I saw and photographed (some good, many bad) 12 new life birds. I'd sure like to go back, either earlier or later in the fall.
