This picture was taken in Maasai Mara. I thought I'd try a b&w conversion. was trying out new programs: OnOne software. Easy to use. Since I have no experience in B&W, I'm trying out different programs. heard Nik software is great too. but then Morkel said Photoshop is still better. I think he's right. It's just easier with the other programs... Sorry haven't posted for a while, too busy in shop. not enough time for my photography will have more time in winter. Dear Carole,

This is the first post I am viewing from you, and what a lovely tender scene of this lioness and her cub! I love the background with OOF grass, and I would like just a tad more space at the bottom below the little one's tail (if possible). I am not familiar with the software you mention above, but with Photoshop one can certainly achieve a lot ( in my case, I need more than Photoshop- I need Steve and Morkel and Brendon and some new friends on BPN to help me with processing)

Great capture Carole, looking forward to more images from you

I think B/W works very well here, emphasizing the wonderful composition and emotion. Well done!

Hi Carole, you have captured a beautiful moment here. Love everything about it. The frame adds a nice touch to the presentation.

Congrats on the colour version of this image being on the previous cover of Africa Geographic Magazine, Carole!

You know I love the moment. I actually like your overall tonal range to lift the lions. I don't mind a strong vignette, but like I said to you on FB I feel the top of mommy's head shouldn't be as dark as well as the cub's tail should be lighter (more visible). Overall I would lift the midtones on the lions a bit.

I prefer the control we have in the Lightroom/Photoshop combo but yes, it's more work...

thanks Morkel. I already made the mommy's head less dark on this one. do you think I should make it even lighter? the tail is darker because of the grass, but you're right, I can make that a tad lighter. I actually took the Perfect Suite version into PS and played a little with dodging and burning. not a bad combo either.
