I just recently upgraded to CS6 and as much as I hated to give Adobe more money since their decision to go to a cloud base subscription service my workflow is dependent on layers and mask so I bit the bullet and ordered CS6 with a perpetual license, Since I started using it I have been really surprised at how good ACR is compared to the older version in CS5 for me just the improvements in ACR are worth the upgrade price. This image is the one that really open my eyes to the improvements over CS5 beforeI could never get the whites right as the RAW file is overexposed and I could never get enough details in the whites to use the image. Today I pulled it into ACR and with the new sliders I was able to fine tune it and get enough detail in the whites to salvage the image.

I upgraded to CS6 (and LR4) late last year and I too was amazed at the improvements of the algorithms. I'm glad I did upgrade, but seeing that I was still on CS2 when I did I think I can stretch this one out for a looonng time!

Nice details, good low angle, and I like the light quality. Just the larger OOF white spot behind the legs could go...

Don, very nice, sharp and sweet Light, BG. Have you tried RAW conversion using DPP and compared with the ACR in CS6? Would love to hear your opinion. Loi

For low iso images I prefer ACR for higher ISO images DPP does a better job I just hate the interface and I miss some of the tools found in ACR so for about 90% of my images I use ACR. I plan on studying DPP more as Canon does a poor job of explaining or producing tutorials on its use and I know there is more that can be done with it if I can find the time to figure it out.

The new Process 2012 (the new sliders and algorithms in the RAW converter) are quite incredible. If anyone hasn't upgraded, I's recommend to do it while you can.

I feel the same about DPP -- it can be better in high-noise images but the clumsy workflow just isn't worth it to me, as a Lightroom user, for most images.

Ditto on the new ACR. I just love the NR in there also compared to the older version.

This is really a fine image and the exposure looks terrific...even if it was achieved after the fact. You obviously had enough information there to make it work so good for you! Wonderful details, colors and pose here.

Could you please advise whether your catch light was added b/c it's not looking quite right to my eyes.

Catch light is natural I did clone out additional high lights in the eye

Hi Don, lovely low angle, and overall well exposed. I do like the blue/brown BG.

Great light Don and all the colors work so well. I also like the low angle. Like my last post, visual feet would make it even better

I like the "classic" feel the image has. The light is good, the details and exposure are great. It's a darn fine image of this species.
