    Default Cemetery Infrared

I've redone this image about 3 times and still can't get what I envision (which I can't really explain but I'd like it duskier). It started as an IR from a Canon 5D, converted by LifePixel with one of the filters that admits a slightly wider spectrum of color than the older IR filters, so there is normally some separation of tones, typically of blue sky and green foliage. But this was a foggy day and I got very little separation. Put it through several filters (I counted 13 layers), mostly an assortment of Nik CEP and some color fill.

Still working on it -- if I can get another version I like better I'll post it.

Hi Diane, The comp is very good, and the setting with the IR is indeed plenty moody. As far as getting a duskier look, you might try NIK CEP midnight and or monday morning filters. They can add a bit of surreal, dusky atmosphere. I will watch for your further versions, but this one succeeds as is IMO. TFS

Thanks, John -- good ideas but I've tried them, and they didn't give what I was looking for, even when combined with other filters. I think one or both may be in the image above. Still working.

I don't like that I got that piece of tree along the right edge of the stone. I can clone it out but thinking of trying a reshoot tomorrow.

Diane, I like the image as it is and especially the vignetting gives it a mystical feel.

Hi Diane, I like the creativity of this image. It may not be exactly what you are going for, but I like the color and composition; both strong elements. Have you tried diffusion or fog effects to get the feel you are looking for?

I really like the colors and blur effect. Works well for me as is!

Kerry, there is a dose of Nik's Glamour Glow in here, but it was too dark in the darkest areas so I moderated it with some Detail Extractor. Tried combining some of their other effects but they didn't work as I had hoped.

I don't have other glow effects in my quiver. Have some very old notes on some assorted ones that don't work as I had written them down.

A nice all around image, IR is something I am going to have to try soon, especially with all the old camera bodies I have lying around. I often change an image many times before I am satisfied with it. Thanks for sharing

I really like the colours and the diffused glow. I might carry that over to the stone, but that is just my opinion.

Thanks, everyone! The IR filter gave me just a bit of color separation between the tombstone / ground and the trees and I decided to exploit it to try to make the stone stand out. The original file contains a hint of mauve and blue, when captured as a RAW and processed to the WB limit of ACR / LR. I can go to a lower WB with DPP but usually don't find an advantage unless I want to do a "false color" IR.

Many ways I could go with this one...
