    Default Skimmer blur

Hi all. I've been absent for a while, my loss! Inspired by Denise's blurs, I have attempted a few recently. This image was shot at Bolsa Chica, Orange Co, CA, near sundown, overcast sky, 1/15th sec at f8, iso 100 with some fill from flip flash, front curtian sync, unfortunately but I corrected this later. I cropped quite a bit, removed dust bunnies and applied NR. I like this one because of the eye contact and the background, mainly.

While down in SoCal, I produced more blurs and built a gallery with them, along with some earlier attempts. I am getting mixed reviews on these. Some folks just don't like them, saying they are images to be avoided! Some folks do like them, sort of! Your comments and critiques would be much appreciated. Your gallery has some interesting and artistic images. The two snow (?) geese are VERY cool -- they look like jet fighters making a low pass. The sharp heads are just amazing, contrasted with the blurred whites.

Thank you, Diane! The tundra swan image was blurred in photoshop. I see that I didn't specify that in my caption (I've done so now).

No problem for me doing special effects in computer or in camera -- it's the OOOOOHH factor that counts, even though most things may be harder to get in camera.

Hi Dan, nice job in the placement of the skimmer. The blur is just enough to be abstract without losing recognition of the species - and the eye is sharp. I also like the layers in the BG. TFS

Hi, Dan, always nice to see you in OOTB! I especially love the layers of color in the background as John mentions. Don't be a stranger

Hi Dan, so - you were in my neighborhood and didn't tell me? I would be at Bolsa Chica in a heartbeat! This is a classic from there, and I would have guessed due to the colors of the bg where it was captured. My guess is the main boardwalk that starts at the parking lot? Good job on the capture and blur! Hope to see you here more often.

I like the blur very much because you can still easily make out the details in the Skimmer, Well done. Blurs can be so much fun, yet frustrating.

I like the flap of the wings, the muted colours with the bright orange of the beak, and the oh so subtle eye. Thumbs up from me!
