    D800, 600, ISO 800, f6.3, 1/1250

I noticed that the female would attack any other males (other than her own male) that would come near her chicks, so I followed the fights as best I could with my 4 FPS camera :-)
I had my ISO pushed to the limit, so I had to sacrifice DOF for enough shutter speed. Not the sharpest image in my files, but I feel the action captured makes up for that. Photographed in waders with tripod in the water and lens near water level.

    Another excellent image Alan.

I have to say that ISO 800 is by no means the D800 limit, so maybe that ISO was a typo or do you not like pushing it past 800? With that said, I'm not sure that even a full stop of aperture would have given you the desired dof at this range. Either way, definitely a keeper

Hey Miguel, ISO 800 is my own personal limit. I'm not comfortable with the noise it produces above 800. Thanks.

I love the action and the bubbling frothing water. Great low POV.
This is one of those images where "if only.." keeps running in my mind. I so wish the male was in focus... especially when the female is so tack sharp.

Great action Alan, The low angle, the intense action make up for the DOF and slight sharpness issue. TFS.

Nice action shot with all the water splashing and the open bills. I agree that it would be great if the drake were in the same focal plane. Nice capture.

I believe that because the drake is higher in the frame and with that bright blue bill, he's the first part of the image that my eye lands on. Wish he was in focus. When my eye drifts to the female and after a bit of study I end up enjoying the image, but it did not grab my attention at first look.

You are right, more DOF would have been better but it is an excellent action shot none the less, Alan.

Wonderful action, well captured given the constraints. Love the POV and the open beaks. All of us, I'm sure, have lots of "if only" shots that are still keepers. This is a case in point.
