    Default Curious

I wanted to show just how curious some of these mountain goats can be. I had positioned myself below the herd and had planned on photographing them as they slowly grazed their way through the rocks. But this young upstart purposefully walked right at me, peered into my lens and then casually walked on. This one goat was easy to identify and all day he liked to create havoc by harassing the moms or pushing around some of the other yearlings.

    Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS @ 70mm, 1/1000, f8, exposure compensation +1, ISO 800

    C & C most appreciated.

This is one very cool image Nancy, I just love the expression on this Mountain Goat's face! What an experience! Nice capture, and I love the way you framed it! Well processed, lovely natural colours ( I can never achieve that) and what a great character this chap is-really enjoyed viewing

    Kind regards,

Nancy - my favorite of your goat shots. Love the curious look, the tilted head. Color and detail look great too. Well done.

    Hi Nancy,
the look is priceless, very cute with the tilted head.

Nicely processed with good details and sharpness, the dull colors conveys the the situation very well when you took the image, for me.

Not sure about the crop, if you have more room all around , still be in square, i like to see less on RHS and more on bottom , to get the full beard ? and not cut off the tip of the hairs.
Think you can try opening up the eyes , to make them more looking alive, just try to make the them shine.

My Thoughts , still very well done.

    Cheers Andreas

This is great, and the tilt of the head has added so much to the character of the image here...tons of personality!! I'd be OK with a tad more room below, but this is awesome as is too.

Lovely expression of the goat, tack sharp, good exposure. Is it a FF? I think this image may benefit from a little bit of room on the left and bottom. Loi

Hi Nancy, I think this is great, an image full of character & impact, lovely work. The quirky HA, moulting coat and the light grey sky build the composition nicely, with good techs too.

The reason I asked if I could see the FF version was two fold, a) to see if you had more below, as per others who asked & b) because I wanted to rotate the image to give the head a bit more of a jaunty angle to emphasis more of that 'curious' look, as the OP prevented this. Not sure if this works and it could do with a little more off the LHS, ie move the crop a fraction to the right, Nancy does the slight CCW rotation, tighter vertical crop emphasis things more, WDYT? Just a thought.

PS Had to take the head from the OP, apologies if there are any artifacts, had to do this on the laptop for speed.

Thank you so much everyone! No more room on the bottom. I was just glad I got one in focus before he came too close! Steve, this crop is another possibility. It does put this goat right in your face! I do think a bit more space on the right as you suggested so he doesn't look too tight in the frame. I will play some more with this one. Thanks for the idea!
