I drove right by this beautiful individual before realizing how close and beautifully close to the road it was perched. Being on a desolate country road I put on the brakes and backed up to where it was and thankfully it was still there. It posed for a few minutes, which is an eternity for songbird photography, and with some pishing and other noises I was finally able to make it turn its head parallel to camera sensor rather than angled away as it was most of the time. I took just one frame in landscaper orientation to noticed it was too tight in the frame for this pose, turned the camera to portrait...perfect!

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/640s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld (from inside the car), full-frame, a branch cloned out at bottom.

You caught the perfect pose. Excellent eye contact. Good job on cloning out the branch... I never would have known.

This is awesome Daniel. The vertical composition, soft light, and great mix of yellows and greens make this a favorite. I love the natural perch too.

Hope you're having fun with the 500. It's a blast to use after having the 100-400 for so long!

Daniel, looks like backing up for this one sure paid off. I like the complementary background to the colors in the bird. Great detail, HA, and perch. As was mentioned your cloning work is superb as there is no trace to be seen. Overall a shot to be proud of!

Excellent image,Daniel Sir.Perfect pose, pleasant yellow color on beautiful BG.
Love the details, the way bird pops up on BG, nice perch and of course composition.
I could see the version without OOF branch behind the bird.

    Regards,
    Satish.

Wonderful image of this stunning bird. Common though he is, this is about as nice an image of him as I've seen. Great perch and bg. And great fieldcraft (with some cooperation from the bird) to get him in such a nice pose.
