    Default Great Crested Grebe Family

I took this shot a few weeks ago and I am happy with it apart from the swarm of flies they were in.
I would like to know how others would deal with this or if they would leave the files?

I know I could use the spot healing tool but would need to click on each individual fly.

Any other C&C would also be welcome and appreciated.

    Nikon D7000 Nikon 300mm F4 AF ED + Sigma 1.4x apo teleconvertor.
    1/500 f/8 ISO 360

I also have a question about the above settings. As the teleconvertor is non reporting and show F4 as the widest aperture does this may the real f stop F11?

    Awesome Picture, beautiful birds.

I might be wrong but I'm sure I saw one of the new features of LR5 is it will automatically select all the spots it thinks are dust. There is a good chance that it might select all the flies for you.

If not, that picture is worth cleaning up for sure, although it would be very time consuming.

Thanks Leigh I only have Lightroom 3 so it looks like I may have to go with the spot healing tool.

Toan, yes they are a male and female although in this species they are virtually identical. I think the one with the chicks on its back it the male due to the the thicker bill, larger crest and slightly larger size. Although I don't know if the larger size always occurs.

    Here is a repost.
I have tried to clean up all the flies using the spot healing tool in PS5.

Hi Ian, the colors and comp are great. As for the image of the birds, it would be nice to see their eyes more clearly. Did you focus on one of the bird's eye?

Yes, for a non-reporting TC, when the camera says f8, it is actually f11. Loi

Thank for your comments. It wasn't as bad as i thought it might be to clean up the flies.
Loi, yes I was focusing on the males eye but it seem to have it in the half open way that it is in the image all the time. I have several shots and its eye is the same on them all. I agree that it would have been better with the eye fully open.
