1d x versus 1d mark 4

hello, i wonder, i know that the 1d x has more megapixels than the 1,3 crop 1d mark 4, so can i crop the image from the 1d x enough to match the pictures i take and also crop with the 1d mark 4 ?

Erik- The 1Dx has more megapixels but a larger sensor than the 1D4. The particular metrics of both cameras result in the Canon 1D4 having smaller pixels than the 1Dx: about 5.7 microns versus 6.9 respectively. So the 1D4 lays more pixels on subject than the 1Dx. If all was equal- lens focal length, distance from subject- your subject would be smaller in the frame with the 1Dx than the 1D4 and to make them the same size you would have to zoom in on the 1Dx image. I'm not entirely sure of your question Erik, but I hope this helps.

This is the main reason I did not uprgade from my beloved MK4. More pixels on the subject is more important to me than 2 more frames per second. I will wait for another generation to see what is offered. My ideal would be a FF sensor at 30 MP with 10 FPS.

arash, what i mean is ; when a bird is small in the frame and i need to crop so that the bird is good in the frame . can i crop with the 1d x so that the bird is at the same size than the crop of a 1d 4 and the same quality ,

I cannot comment on a IV vs. 1DX but I can on the 7D vs. IV. There is a very valid argument for pixels on the subject and it is real. With the 7D I could get incredible information out of the files in PS. Where with the IV I am very limited. At the same shooting distance. But, the 7D is a POS compared to the IV. Arash I trust totally. No fanboy ism IMO And honest . Good comparison.

As much as I hate to ( with a passion ) move to full frame. I am considering the next ID series full frame or an older IDX for the benefits of low light. I am however ( without much hope ) holding out for a good 7D II. Which would help me with pixels on the subject.

These kind of posts baffle me. It totally depends on the kind of photography you plan to do. Me as a jungle shooter and occasionally shore birds. The IDX is my pick at this point. For mostly shore birds or birds in good light, and big enough for the AF to work good. I personally would go with pixels on the subject.

The 1Dx would need to be about 27 megapixels in order match the pixel density of the 1D4. Since the 1Dx has only 18 megapixels, cropping to get the same field of view as a 1D4 will result in fewer pixels on your subject.

I agree with David. I've got a 1Dx and a 1D4; since acquiring the 1Dx I have not picked up the 1D4.

Yea. Because i must get closer to the bird than with the 1d4 i reckon.

I doubt anyone who owns both considers the 1DIV crop has a resolution/pixel density advantage. I don't and rarely use the 1D4 anymore.
