    Default Hungry Phoebe

    This is the third large insect taken by the hungry Eastern Phoebe in less than 20 minutes. The bird was able to open its beak wide enough to swallow the whole butterfly.




    Tech stuff: Sony A77, Sony 300mmGII + 1.4x, Flash (-0.7) w/ BetterBeamer, f/5.6, 1/320s, ISO 200, tripod, blind.

    What a nice catch by this hungry fella. I like the erect pose, and the fact the butterfly is facing us. Neat perch and the green BG works well. Image is a a tad dark IMO, and an extra round of sharpening would be good for web presentation. Crop-wise just a bit more canvas left and above (if you have it) would loosen the comp nicely.

    Big, warm welcome to BPN, and congrats on getting your first post up. You have a fine looking image here. Love the bird against the green BG. I might consider a bit of canvas off of the right and top and agree on a tad more sharpening of the bird.
