Just returned from a fantastic 9 days of photographic safaris in the Sabi Sands Game. We managed to keep our guests and their cameras busy with some fantastic big cat sightings, 10 individual leopards and 3 prides of lions, as well as countless general game and some awesome landscapes, winter morning scenes with the rising sun and misty dams as well as some great sunsets.

Hi Brendon - this is extremely effective. The breath takes it to a whole other level.

Very dramatic! Wonderful detail in the face whiskers. The breath adds a very unique feeling. Sabi Sands sounds fantastic.

Too good! The breath takes my breath away......and seriously it is an absolutely gorgeous shot, beautifully finished.. I tried to take this shot a number of times but never got close. All that space works very well for me too.

excellent! love the rim light & the smoke. might try sharpening the lion a bit just to enhance the rim light effect.

Hi Brendon, I like the fact the subject is looking into the page rather than out, however with the rather stark BKG and rim light, this create a very dramatic image, especially with the breath. I think it was good to have the odd 'hint' of vegetation coming through with in the BKG ie along the back of the neck, was that intentional? If you are doing this again, can you try something please, bracket the shots ie 7 in total so you have multiple exposures i.e. -3 EV to +0.33, in that way it may help build the image, a bit like HDR I guess. A it would be good to know if this works, plus it might help you specifically at PP stage.

    Cheers

This is just a killer image, Brendon. The breath really sets this one apart even more from the other backlit subjects.

    Dear Brendon,

To me this is one of your best images-with its dramatic feel and simplicity, this photograph dictates an emotional reaction from the viewer-brilliant, congratulations!

...I just walked few minutes ago past your leopard print I have on my wall near the study...I think this lion would look stunning next to it

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Brendan, a superb image in composition, dramatic rim lighting, and the breath vapor takes it way up there. Excellent work.

I think the sharpening that Girish did took this up another notch. This is really an outstanding image!

This is stunning - one of the best I've seen of this type of shot. I guess you underexpose heavily in the main shot, and then clean up in PS. Beautiful.
