    Default Travel laptop

Any body here used the Surface pro yet for processing? Kinda looks attractive to me with the Wacom pen. And HD. But a small screen
Not interested in an Apple. No offence. But I think overpriced.
I can pick up a good 13 inch with i5 and 8gb ram pretty cheap. I use an old dell i3 now and it is fast enough with 6gb ram for me. But it is getting old and the hinges are broken.
Will be strictly for travel. Like throwing it in a backpack and heading out. Any advice?
    Thanks, G

I'd like to know what you find out. I've also been considering the Surface Pro as a travel computer for photo editing.

With 128 GB SSD, internal SD reader, and only one USB port it'd be under-specced for me.
In the field I need to copy files from a CF card reader to a drive. The Lr catalog could be on the internal SSD, but how do you connect a card reader and a drive at the same time? If you use only SD cards that's easier, but still how do you connect a second drive in order to make a backup?
You could use an external powered USB hub, but that doesn't really count as useful in most of my travel situations where I need to be able to run off the laptop's battery.

Two USB ports is a minimum for me, and as a result I've had to recommend against the Surface for my clients.

Been struggling with this one ALOT. I almost bought the Sony non touch I7,8gb ram and 255 ssd. But I was to late and they discontinued that model with a new one I do not like.
I am headed to Bangkok in the next month. I have found some nice ultra-books that I think will work. Full HD, IPS screens and with a 2 GB Nivida card. Fairly reasonable. But will have to add ram and a new SSD drive. Here is a link on Amazon I really like for new laptop conversions. I would jump on it in a heard beat if in America? But not in Asia. Tax is prohibitive here.

I like this one also, http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SVP1321DC...ny+Vaio+Pro+13

If I can find the older Asus Zenbook UX32vd for a good price I will pick it up and upgrade it. It has a 1Gb Nivida card. And a so so, monitor. I am not a fanatic like a lot of people here. I just want middle of the line ( cheap as possible ) last a couple three years. I personally like my Dell I use now. But it renders video so slow? PP video's is a night mare!! And the hinges are broken. Soooo. I will let you know what I find and what I get. Leaning more toward a fair video editing ultrabook. I would like to do some more video's just for grins.

With the new drivers from ( Wacom ) the Surface pro is looking better all the time. The only thing is the screen real estate? I am getting older and not sure it will do for me? Other than that I really like it.

Don't know if anyone is interested. But the new Haswell chips from Intel are shipping now in the new ultrabooks. I tried some glossy screens that are coming with the touch windows 8. And I like the Sony vaio pro 13, TFT, IPS, 1080p. But side by side, I reallllly like the matte screen better, non touch. And after some interesting research. Finding a good laptop for this is going to be a compromise. Not near as good as a desktop unit for sure.

But for me a fairly good IPS matte display. With the new Haswell or Ivy bridge will do. Not crazy about the HD4000, or the HD 4400 graphics. But I think it is a good trade off for me.
Bottom line is I will try to wait until a few more Asus ultrabooks with the new Haswell's start shipping to decide. So a couple of months for sure.
By then this thread will be hard to find, but I will post an update.
