This is one of a series of shots I got New Years day at the Conowingo dam in Maryland of a mature eagle trying to steal a fish from the immature bird. I was using my 40D with a 400 5.6 1/2000 at 5.6 400 iso

This is an excellent image. Great action, well exposed.. Wish I could see the eye of the inmature bird but that's being a bit picky. Well done Don....

Don, nice work catching the action and in cases like that, not be on light, head turns from the bird, etc. take a back seat to the action. You did well there. I looks like you have a good handle on the exposure for this fast breaking image.

Thanks very much for the comments...:)

This was an amazing sight...I knew something was up when I saw the mature bird coming up fast from a distance on the immature. I got a seven frame series of the action...the next frame was of the immature actually catching the fish again in mid air before it could hit the water. It all happened so fast that I didn't have time to think about it...lol

I have been lurking here for a few days, but just have to comment on this outstanding image. the action and story are just super. The 1/2000 shutter did well for you. The expression on the mature Eagle's face is pure aggression! Thanks for sharing.
