Took an hour today in the current fine weather to try and get a photo of these magnificent birds. I'm fortunate to live in a local hot spot for them. This was a little tricky to capture as it was flying close to the sun. Not the most ideal of conditions but couldn't resist it. I'm fairly pleased with the outcome but always appreciated comments. The original image did have more room at the top but I had to crop it to 900px high to post here.

Hi Simon, I guess it wasn't around the Chilterns then.

Have you lightened under the wings, they look very even with no shadow, as I assume the bird was backlit based on the tail feathers, but might just be me? I like the outstretched display and position in frame. BTW just watch the subtle halos around the wing tips.

Thanks for the feedback. Steve, yes I did lift the shadows a bit to reveal some detail. Although I shot at +1 ev it was still a little under exposed, so thought I'd lighten it. Perhaps I went a bit to far. Here's a repost with increased shadows. I think it does look better.

These are numerous where I live in Northamptonshire.

I too like the RP better as it clearly shows the back lit tail. very nice details, good exposure, sharp eye. Loi

nice pose and eye contact, the main issue here was harsh light that caused some highlights to be blown, but you did a good job. there is slight yellow cast that comes from back light.
