I took this shot at the cottage in Ingonish last weekend.

The vertical for me although I like both.
Amazing clarity, sharp as can be and a very nice perch & BG color.

I too like the vertical. There is too much space on the horizontal. The vertical gives just enough space and rock. Well done. Loi

Definitely vertical due to the birds pose and less empty space then the horizontal image. Great colours and sharpness, nicely done Gail.

I would take the horizontal but feel there is too much room on the top

Vertical for me Gail. I find the rocks in the horizontal to overpowering. I like the type of horizontal crop you have , but, IMHO, the rocks kill it. Perhaps try it in horizontal and clone out the un-wanted rocks. Just leave the one the bird is perched on.

This one is interesting, the subject has been captured perfect with superb exposure lovely light.

As presented i like the horizontal version more for simply the space around the bird, the BG adds a nice dimension to the image .

When the composition goes vertical i am tempted to knock off a bit of the top and bit of the bottom to get the bird close. hence the version i feel i like and keep unchanged is the horizontal.

    Excellent image Gail.
Though horizontal composition looks beautiful with well balance between bird and rocky perch, I personally like the vertical composition.
I would give slight crop on top and RHS. Love the pose with beautiful head turn and raised foot, nice colors and details.
Color of rock is nicely complimenting with bird's colors.

    Regards,
    Satish.

Hi Gail, love the casual pose with the slightly raised foot. Great IQ, tack sharp, well exposed, and love the hint of green in the lower BG. I like the vertical, but on the landscape to work better for me ( just personal ) I would take a bit off the top.

You have wonderful subjects at your cottage.
