This was taken late this spring from my vehicle. The birds perch along the roadside ditch. All C&Cs are welcome and appreciated.

Hi Jim, well placed looking into the frame, and I do like the angled pose. Blacks well exposed, and the red epaulet stands out nicely. The two tone BG works well, and I presume the lower half is OOF flowers.

Thanks Stuart and Joel. The bottom layer is some kind of wildflower that covers the field in spring before the crops are in.

What a sweet play of colors. Really the purple on the bottom just sets this off, especially with the epaulet flared as is. Great image of the species...but the purple in the bg will make this one memorable.

The purple BG colors make this image stand out.
Love the catchlight in the eye and that perky upright tail. Nice, simple, perfect sized perch.
Perfect HA and the blacks look really good,
    Gail

You took a very common bird and showed it to it's best. Just lovely all around.

Agree with all the kudos, Jim.
The BG color makes the common look special.
The blacks look great, in a perfect world the beak would be cleaner, but this is they often look.

I'm really digging the wren-like pose, and of course the BG colours are very appealing.
