From my first ever series of this beautiful species. Again taken from the comfort of my car along a local country road and using audio (speakers placed in the field outside the vehicle).

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/200s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld (lens resting on window opening), darkened pupil, a couple of grass blades eliminated along the bottom, cropped fro composition (about 80% FF).

Congratulations on a fine shot! I was excited when I was able to a my first as well. Have you considered a vertical crop or is the plant too wide?

I love the OOF BG on the right -- in fact I wish the OOF yellow areas weren't so close to the edge. I would hate to lose any of that area to a crop, but might crop a little of the plant on the top.

I don't know how dark or intense this bird should be, but just from a standpoint of looking at a photograph, I'm wondering if there is a way to lighten the bird a little but preserve detail.

You have chosen a great spot for him, Daniel.
This species is more responsive to calls than others.
Great perch, background and the bird is a glowing beauty.

Good stuff Dan. Love the perch, pose and the complementary colors. The bird looks just a tad dark to me, might just be my monitor though. Great portrait!

    What a beautiful bird!
It does seem a bit dark to me also, I like the crop as is.

    Daniel:

A lovely fellow, and the soft light really made his colors pop. He is just a bit darker than the ones I see, as others have mentioned.

I like the crop as is, but could also see a vertical as mentioned.

    Beautiful.

    Cheers

Excelent bird, love the green surrounding the blue bird and the soft light. BG is also killer. A lovely image Daniel.
