When I am shooting birds at setups I have to chase the squirrels away constantly. Today I let one feed so I could get a shot or two. D800, 300mm, 2Xtc, tripod, flash. 1/200, f6.3, ISO 800. Tweaked wb, exp, blacks, clarity, cropped in ACR. Cleaned up rock and USM in CS6.

Hello Jack-this squirrel is so pretty and so vivid, I want to touch the screen...Not sure about the fern on the right and the OOF fern in front, if this lovely image was mine I would have cloned them out (do not know your position on cloning), I am curious to see what the other members have to say.

I am looking at this image on my laptop now, but I would love to take another look tonight on the big screen-it looks very sharp to me and I love the detail. My Kalahari squirrels look so scruffy next to this little beauty, Jack!

    Have a great week-end,

Nice pose and soft light here, Jack.
Good depth from the background - is that all natural, the smooth background I mean? Just forest/foliage rendered nicely OOF?
I don't have a clue what this little guy looks like so I'm not sure if I'm legitimate in saying I see a slight green cast?

Hi Jack, nice chap you got here. The colors looks fine to me, but agree with Morkel and on the green/cyan cast. Just slightly.
I might would pull down also the green of that one single leaf in front of the rock! Just my thought!

Hi Jack - nice pose and detail. I also like the bg and the leaves don't bother me. I'll leave the color to the others as I am not on my calibrated monitor right now.

Hi Jack, well I for one would welcome more of your images, set-up or not.

The 'grey' for us is basically vermin, and not a true species compared to the lovely Red. I like the set-up, but personally would lose the foliage at the RHS, makes it cleaner. As for the cast, well for once I too am viewing on a laptop so will bail out, but you could drop the blue in the whites? Good DOF with a nice clarity & sharpness, nice one.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Morkel, the BG is an OOF dense woods in shade about 40 ft away. As for the green cast I can't see it but will play with the raw file a little more. Thanks all.

    Fantastic looking squirrel, Jack!
Colors look right to me, your usual great IQ and I am a big fan of squirrels!
The set up perch (for birds), looks excellent with this guy.

    Hi Jack,

excellent composition, the squirrel really pops on the dark BG, and the details rock.
