Shot this hungry little one a couple of weeks ago. Wish I didn't get the green leaves in right corner but did the best I could. Used the 1DIV, 300 + 1.4 TC, ISO 800, 1/2000, f/8.0. HH. C&C greatly appreciated.
I love the pose, sharpness, and detail in the whites. I don't mind the OOF leaves; they fill in some negative space and provide some balance to the bird. But it shouldn't be difficult to do a good job of burning them down.
That is a super image Don. Sharp and great interest. The down on the head is lovely. The negative space is useful and adds to the image. The green splotches could be removed in 5 sec if you wanted to (clone tool) but I don't mind them being there. More and more and leave things as they are and try to get it right in the camera, as if I were shooting slide film.
I will say that the copyright notice is a distraction away from a beautiful image. I would make it smaller and put it on the other side.
As a side note about copyright notices, they are basically useless. Your copyright of this image is protected whether you use a notice or not, and it would be a minor job to remove the notice with Photoshop. The other point to be made is that even small (e.g., 1024 wide) images are useful and can be printed in the corner of a magazine or brochure at 3" x 2". Bottom line is, if some unscrupulous person or company wants to use your image that has been posted on the web, and without permission, they can. The only way of totally protecting yourself is not to put anything up on the web, and that's certainly not what we want to see at BPN! Keep posting Don and don't worry, be happy!
Nice pose you got here and the downy feathers are great as well as the detail. I like the green oof as it adds some environment and add interest to the negative space. I have to disagree with John about the copy write stamp being useless. I will not send any of my images thru the web without it. yes you are legally covered without it but having it there may deter someone from stealing the image for whatever they want it for legal or not at least your name will appear for the credits on the image unless of course they clone it off.I have had it happen and it's a shame people do it but it's all part of the big picture these days.
Hi Cheryl- You could be right. I shouldn't have said "useless" without qualifying- I think putting your name on an image does little if anything to stop theft and adds nothing to your legal protection, as I understand it (lawyers chime in?). It's similar to "No trespassing" signs, again for the most part legally useless. I will say that a name on an image is great promotion if that's what you want but then it doesn't have to be big and obtrusive.
