I'm new to the group and wanted to stop by here and say "hello" before I wander off and start looking at tutorials and such.
I've been taking photos for a long time but only recently decided to sit down and try to learn how everything works so I can maybe make the photos I want instead of just counting on luck.
I moved from the coastal plain of Virginia to the hills of Tennessee a few years ago and started photographing birds to record what I saw in this new landscape. Sort of a photographic yard list. Soon, just snapping pictures wasn't enough and I started trying to get more attractive shots. Now I have a little "studio" set up around the feeders and I often take my morning coffee in a pop-up blind. I guess I'm hooked.
I don't have the best equipment and upgrades aren't budgeted for any time soon. But I think my camera and lenses are probably good enough to start with and I'd like to learn to make the best use of what I have.
I noticed that one of the forum names is "eager to learn" and that's me, Little Miss Eager ;-) I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and getting better images out of my camera.
Welcome to BPN, Sandy! You've definitely come to the right place to learn. No need to worry about not having the "best" equipment because the camera is just a tool; you're the one who takes the photo. I only have an ultrazoom camera myself. As you've already noted, the "Eager to Learn" forum is a great place to start with posting photos for critique, and looking forward to seeing some of your photos!
Welcome aboard, Sandy. I am very envious of your backyard set up. That must be so special to have the birds all around you. I totally agree with Chris about your gear. Better gear doesn't usually make for better photographs. It's a good idea to learn the equipment you have now, and the ETL forum is a great place to start! We'll look forward to seeing some of your images. There's no time to start like the present!
Little Miss Eager, I like that, and I welcome you Sandy to BPN Another great attitude and open mind for learning and improving. This site is loaded with great info and tips from fellow photographers. Looking forward to your input and I know you will enjoy your stay.
