Default Portrait of a Lioness, Serengeti

This is my first wildlife post from Africa. We are on a 14-day safari of Kenya and Tanzania. This lioness had killed a wilderbeast and was relaxing under a tree between feedings. We still have 2 more days to go, so appreciate your feedback.

Nice image - nicely framed with the grass and a bit of interest with the carcass in the background. Did you take any landscape images too? Perhaps you also have some where there's a bit of light in the lioness's eyes as she looks a bit 'flat'....perhaps that was the effect you were going for....a lioness who's eaten so much that she's completely sated! Have a great time on the rest of your safari.

    Hi Loi,
Not knowing if this is FF, i think it would have been better to go vertical to include more on the RHS instead of the Top.I think there is more interest in the carcass and the direction the lioness is looking to.
Other option would have been to include more FG instead of BG.My take from the design POV.

Like the tones and the soft colors in the subject , but would try to open up the eyes to give them more life.On the other hand i would try to tone down the brighter parts of the BG.

Overall i think some potential is there to tweak it into a better direction, just my thoughts.

Some good suggestions above. I too would prefer a landscape orientation showing more of the kill here.
Not pertaining to any issues I see on this photo, but in general I think your files will benefit from you processing at home on a calibrated monitor in ideal lighting conditions, after the euphoria of being in the field has subsided.

Enjoy the rest of your trip!

I rather like the vertical crop. But- take a bit off of top.
Here it is in the classic 4x5 aspect ratio (chopped from top) -

Thank you all for your comments. The lioness was in the shade of a tree, so her eyes a little flat. I have other in ages in horizontal format that shows the kill and will post later. I think the 4x5 crop shows the portrait well. Loi
