This is my first image posted from Africa. We are on a 16 day safari in Kenya and Tazania. I did not have many bird images, but of the few that I got, they are almost full frame. Taken from a safari vehicle.

    Removed one distracting branch.

We still have 2 more days, so appreciate your feedback.

Hi Loi, great sighting, and nicely in the open. The pose shows off the colours very well, and against a good smooth BG. If you have already removed a distracting branch, I would remove the lower one too.

Im afraid this is not a Malachite, but a Grey headed kingfisher.

Excellent light & IQ. Great BG. Wish for a version without that OOF branch.

Wonderful portrait of this kingfisher, Loi. How awesome that it's (almost) full frame. The background colors are very nice, the light is soft, and you have great detail. I see what people mean about the out of focus branch, but it doesn't bother me all that much.

Beautiful detail and BG. The OOF branch isn't a problem for me, but easy enough to remove so I probably would if it were mine.

The in-focus areas (head and near part of the perch) look a little over-sharpened to me.

Have a great rest of the trip!

Thank you all for your comments and feedback.

As regard to the OOF branh, normally I'd not remove branches, but you are right, once I removed one branch, I should just remove the OOF one as well.

Diane, agreed with you that the image was overhapened. The original was pretty sharp, so when I applied my normal sharpeningparameters, it beame overshapened. Here in the RP, I knocked the sharpening way down. Hope you like it better.

Stuart, thanks for pointing out that this is a Grey Headed King Fisher, not a Malachite.

Very nice repost Loi. I think removing the OOF branch and less sharpening makes the image stronger. Enjoy the rest of your trip and will be looking forward to seeing more!

excellent pose and details, nice BG. I like the repost but it shows some clone artifacts that should be easy to remove.

Thanks again everyone for your comments. I cleaned up the image a little bit and cropped a little tighter as well. I'm back late last night and will need to catch up. There have been so many excellent images posted here the past 3 weeks!!!
