As luck would have it this Nankeen Kestrel perched on the seaside cliff face the other day in a position I could access.....fairly safely ?

Like the strong colors in this one, a bit of bright sunshine after some dull wet days and the colored ochre and sandstone coastal cliffs here are a kaleidoscope of color.

Canon 7D + 500 f4 + 1.4 x TC....700mm, f7.1, 1/8000, ISO 800........cropped slightly, selective sharpen noise reduction, cloned out quite a bit of bird poop from the rock, and clone/ removed an oof section of rock on the right hand bottom.

Very clean shot, I like the visible feet, lovely colours. I may be tempted to apply a tiny bit more sharpening to the bird.

I also just noticed there are light clone tool drag marks along the top edge of the bird where I was trying to get rid of a bit of color bleed from using a masking layer for reducing backdrop noise.

Lovely light, simply design, lots of room for the subject, Sympathetic perch. Head angle is a bit flat.

Love how the color of the perch compliments the subject. A fine image with super detail and a very nice comp.

lovely bird & setting Phil. like the perch & the side on view. feel there are enough details to take a bit more of sharpening.

Excellent image of kestrel on nice perch.
Love the pose, beautiful colors and very nice composition.
Little contrast and sharpening will not harm the beauty of the image.

    Regards,
    Satish.

Hi Phil, the angle looks fine, and I like the weathered perch. I agree some selective sharpening over the kestrel wont harm.

A nice opportunity and well captured.
I like the perch but wonder if you applied NR to it? If you did I would undo that action to restore more detail.
Nice light. I would sharpen the bird a bit more as well,
    Gail

Lovely! I wouldn't think of adding any sharpening artifacts to the bird. It has a lovely subtlety to me, but isn't what I would call soft.

I might tone down the color of the rock just a little -- it's beautiful but competes with the more subtle bird.
