This image is one of a series made early one morning in April at Gatorland in Orlando. Several Roseate Spoonbills landed on a tree, and shortly after, an Anhinga arrived. This Spoonbill got into a huge shouting match with the Anhinga, as the other Spoonbills watched. Eventually the Spoonbill receded, but in this particular image, he looks like he's telling the Anhinga off!

I now regret that I didn't take advantage of the bright light and reduce my aperture size to ensure that both birds were in more perfect focus. Next time, hopefully...

Hi Wendy! I agree a smaller aperture may have gotten you better focus but still a great capture of some great behavior.

    Wendy,

Nice action shot and an interesting moment with nature. Curious, what was you point of focus....did you use center sensor? The first thing that catches my eye is the image could use more detail...given the shutter speed I assume it was hand held (HH). Notice the large catch light in the Spoonies eye..that is motion blur...do you have tripod?

I agree with you and Bob, a f/8 might help the DoF assuming you had good light. The angle is almost too steep as well; always try and get the subject at its eye level...that usually the strongest view...there are exceptions of course. Anytime we can capture two subjects in a picture I am impress...well done and keep em coming.

Thanks, Bob and Jeff. Yes, I did use a central sensor. And it was handheld: I had my tripod with me, but unfortunately I didn't use it for the shots in this series. Next time....
