Shot this young one at a local rookery. Used the 1DIV, 300 + 1.4 TC, f/8, ISO 800, 1/3200. HH. Any C&C would be greatly appreciated.

I love the way the light angle brings out the shape of the head and details in the feathers -- studio lighting in the field! The bright branches in the BG do compete. I've had good luck burning down areas like that with the incredible making capabilities of Nik Viveza. Sometimes you can almost make them disappear.

I love the feather detail and the rich hues of both the beak and the brownish-gold feathers.

Don...I agree that you got great feather detail...only wish the bg was not so distracting

    Don,

Good comments above ....in a captive environment work the subject more and ensure the eye is not in a shadow. Wonderful things happen to an image when we include a well lit, shape eye. I would have made this a portrait (tighter crop) and removed some of the distracting background .... consider alternatives. Nice feather detail...and the exposure techs look good. Thanks for sharing..please keep em coming.

I'm not concerned about the BG before the subject. It is potentially a good portrait but the shadows on the face do not show off the subject in the best light, pun intended.

Here is what can be done with a simple dodge of the posted jpeg. A much more convincing job could be done on the raw image.
