Hi Ian - nice light hitting the coyote and I like the pose. I think the blacks are choked a bit and would look at reducing the yellows and perhaps reds slightly. I'm not familiar with Noiseware Pro and wonder if it was necessary to run NR at ISO 640 in this light. You certainly had plenty of shutter speed and could have dropped the ISO in the field or gone for more dof. The bg looks a little patchy, with blur in some areas and other areas sharp. I'm not sure if that is due to the pp software or is that way in the original.
Thanks, Rachel. The bush to the viewer's right of the coyote is much closer and thus the focus is a bit different and the color is a bit darker. The BG is a pretty accurate reflection of the real thing, I believe. I admit this scene caught me a bit by surprise - I was setting up for some birds when he tromped in front of me and I didn't have time to react and play with ISO or aperture. I really wouldn't have wanted much more DOF, though, as I think he then would have been lost then in the scrub. Yes, I did need some NR on the BG -- in fact I usually need at least a little if I send my ISO up much over 500 on the 7D. I agree about the blacks .. will play a little.
I agree with Rachel on the yellow and reds a bit. I just pulled it into PS and opened a Hue/Saturation mask. Went into yellow. Pulled the saturation down to -10 > -12. The Hue up to about +9.
I just reduced that in the BG and FG. Not in the Coyote. Have a look, just a thought.
Try it out, you might like it Love the spot/ground this Coyote is standing on. I would not touch the red of the ground at all. That looks to me very nice.
Nice pose and light here, Ian.
How much of a crop is this? If not much, you should be able to get some better detail from the RAW file? It looks a bit scrunchy?
