    Default Red-necked Grebe.

I hardly got to the place when this "action" took place. I had a few grab shots.
By the time I got to the water level (you have to climb on loose boulders) all the action stopped and soon after the good quality light was gone.
I'm anticipating an other shooting in a few days time.
    Thanks for looking.

    Lovely image Karl
I think once i saw the composition with the parent looking down at the chick, shading the chick , guess thats what makes the image amazing to my eye
    Details are fantastic

What an opportunity! Very nicely captured -- hardly a "grab shot" in my book. But if you do get another chance, maybe a little higher ISO would give you some more SS and/or DOF. But I'd be very pleased to own this one.

    Karl:

Nice comp with the chick framed by the doting parent. Yes to a bit more DOF, which is always a challenge with this type of shot.

Are there other eggs or chicks in the nest?

    Cheers

    Thanks Randy.
The other chick was riding on the other parent's back but was not really visible.
There are more eggs maybe two, one for sure.

Lovely detailed shot Karl, there appears to be a few unhatched eggs in the nest.

I love this one as is, esp. the perfect look at and head angle of the chick. Lower might not have been better as I love the light toned water BKGR.....

One heck of a grab shot Karl. Great composition, light quality, head angles/eye contact, sharpness, etc.

Great work getting this on the fly! Water colors are great and I like the water drops on the adults body
