    D3 200/400vr, at 400mm. 1/1000 sec @F5 , -iso 200. this was shot on very overcast dreary day, thus the drab gray looking colors. I would kind of like to make it whiter, but then I would lose more detail on the tail. Kind of a loss how to attack this.

    I like the moment you captured here - looks indeed like very dull light. Tried to lighten the image and then "paint" detail back into the areas (tails) that tend to get lost in the white otherwise - needs more care than I could muster but here is the result anyway:

    Dieter did a good job here creating a nice contrast and retaining the details. You can use a levels adjustment and set the white and black points to open up the image.

    Nice action and good job capturing it.

    Thats an improvement. How do u paint detail back into the tail?

    Monte, I duplicated layer in PS, used curves to lighten the image on the top level, then used a soft eraser brush and erased the tail in the top image (adjusting the brush to less than 100%). Could also be done on one layer, using the history brush to bring back the tail from before the other adjustments were made.
