Default Big Scary Bird Thing !

Striated Pardalote......caught this little guy putting on his defensive behavior by spreading his wings and fluttering vigorously. I must of been too close to his nest or girlfriend so he tried making himself look bigger I presume, or maybe simply to impress his lover.

Canon 7D + 500 f4 + 1.4 x TC....700mm, f6.3, 1/800, ISO640, +0.3EV, Aperture Priority, no flash, hand held......cropped, selective sharpen and noise reduction, dodge tool across eye region, leaf above head removed and tiny twig behind legs

Very neat shot Phil. Wonderful colors in this bird and pose. I've seen a few males puff up to appear bigger in my day.

Great behavior captured sir. Cute bird too, I love this species. This pose reminds me of a dancing
sharp tail grouse on a lek, which is done to impress the ladies....A little fill flash seems reasonable
given the lighting, unless you are opposed to flash lighting of course....

Hi Phil, I like the colours on this fellow, they stand out very well against your lighter BG. I really like how the wing follows the line of the perch, and just enough room all round.

Cheers Shawn.....yes you are correct a bit of fill flash would of been idea, I sometimes do so, but more often I leave it at home and for my tastes fill flash can too often look false
